A woman found this story in a old farm magazine. A wife wrote that, at supper, her family constantly argued or dwelt on unpleasant experiences from the day. One morning she suggested, "Let's each watch for the nicest thing that happens today. Write it down and we'll share it at supper."
Some of the things they recorded? Sunlight making rainbows on dewdrops in a spider web; an unexpected shower when the fields needed it most; a woman in the laundromat quickly emptying her dryer and saying, "Use this one. It's still going"; and a tiny red flower in the lane.
They were simple everyday things but yet such day brighteners that the family continued the game. The farm wife reported increased awareness of God's gift and happier days for everyone.
Poet Sara Teasdale wrote: "Life has loveliness to sell, All beautiful and splendid things..." And the price is simply awareness. We find what we're looking for. And when we're looking for lovely things, including kindness, we find them all around us.
